The Bank was founded on November 7th 1992, under the name Market Banka dd Sarajevo, as a shareholders company with dominant portion of private capital (over 90%).

End of war activities as well as reconstruction of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its economy had significant impact on improvement of structure and service-quality offered by the bank in that period, including the financial results and positive growth of all balance sheet items.

In the post-war period the Bank made great efforts to further advance and develop, trying to endure the market game and finish it as stronger, modern and better prepared to cope with challenges of post-war period. Very soon, the quality of its business secured it the reputation of successful and profitable bank.

Operating in, at the time, modest local financial environment ex Market banka succeeded to strengthen its capital by foreign investments thus becoming prevailingly foreign and major owners were the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development 23.53%, Futura Investment Ltd. Douglas 13.74%, Soros Economic Development, Delaware 11.80% and DEG-Deutsche Investitions und Entwicklungsgessellschaft mbH Koln 11,57%.

On July 21st 2000 Raiffeisen Zentralbank Osterreich AG acquired controlling block of shares (89,71%) and the bank changed its name to Raiffeisen Bank dd Bosna i Hercgeovina. This marked integration of the bank into RZB network, which operates in 13 countries of Central and Eastern Europe.

In May 2001 Raiffeisen Zentralbank Osterreich AG become 100% owner of another B&H bank, Hrvatska postanska banka dd Mostar, which soon changed its name into Raiffeisen Bank HPB dd Mostar.

From January 1st 2003, when Raiffeisen Bank HPB was integrated into Raiffeisen Bank dd Bosna i Hercegovina, a new era started in the Bank business. In implementing this project the Bank strengthened its position at BH market and increased the balance volume to over one billion KM and significally expanded its business network.

RBBH was among the first to sign the agreement on deposit insurance up to 5.000 KM with Deposits Insurance Agency.

With its head-office in Sarajevo the bank operates through its branches in Sarajevo, Mostar, Banja Luka, Tuzla, Bihac, Zenica, Brcko, Tešanj, Vitez, Goražde, Visoko, Trebinje, Orašje, Kakanj, Žepce, Široki Brijeg and Livno.

Investment into new technologies, experienced staff who has a constant education, an emphasis on individual customer approach and introduction of new modern products and services in the area is Alfa and omega of RBBH competitiveness at the market.
Beside Raiffeisen Bank, Raiffeisen Group in Bosnia and Herzegovina consists of Raiffeisen Osiguranje and Investment fund MI Group.

Two crossed horse heads (gable cross) present trademark of Raiffeisen organisation. This is the sign of protection designed to symbolise safety under the same roof.

Gable cross originates from the folk tradition well known throughout Europe and its roots may be found a hundred years ago.

It used to be attached to the roof gable of houses and was supposed to protect its inhabitants against all outside dangers.

In some areas this tradition lives to present days.
Raiffeisen organisation choose this protective symbol as its trademark to indicate that their members are protected against economic dangers through their alliance and co-operation.
